So, as 2012 begins, many other great things have begun as well :]
One of the new things is that Journey EC has a new pastor! I’m definitely looking forward to how he leads our church in a new direction, and I found his very first message to be very encouraging. So I thought I would share it here!
The main idea of it was having a margin, and how it’s easier for God to work in our lives if we give Him room to work. Otherwise our fears and worries start crowding everything, making it harder to move and work around.
Hosea 10:12 - Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is the time to seek the Lord, until He comes and showers His righteousness on you.
basically saying to just let God move in your uptight spaces, and seek Him while He does so.
He concluded with this. which I LOVED it was such a good reminder!
Ecclesiastes 3:11,13 - He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all of their toil - this is the gift of God.
God wants you to be happy. He has the same dreams for us that we have for ourselves. Everything is beautiful in its time.. it’s a gift! It costs us something if we try to buy it ourselves. For example, we stress, worry, fear.. that costs us a lot of wasted energy. But if we wait on God, He’ll give it to us at no cost. You’ll get to enjoy life as a gift! His dreams really are our dreams if we’re patient..
and that’s just how my 2012 has begun :]
At church tonight, it’s a Christmas tradition to light a candle and pass the flame to the next person. I always think it’s super cool cause the sanctuary goes from black to glowy yellow.. lit up symbolically by the light of Christ. and as it spreads, great joy is present on everyone’s faces. I love the lighting and it reminds me how if I have this light, in order to make everything brighter.. I need to share it and help other people catch flame.
shine your light and let the whole world see,
we’re singing for the glory of the risen king!
I really want to be a marketing minor, it’s just time consuming.. and focusing in class has been a lot harder than i thought it would be.. might be due to the fact that my teacher has a thick indian accent.. or the fact that he has terrible teaching strategies with terrible looking powerpoints (that’s probably just me being a pretentious graphic designer).. it might also be because in design classes, the setting is totally relaxing and chill with food and drinks, opposed to sitting in a lecture hall listening to the teacher from charlie brown preparing you for a nap.
anyway, as i’ve been reading my marketing book, i’ve actually learned a lot of things! mainly the mindset of a marketer.. in doing anything to sell stuff to consumers.. and like i really mean anything. this is what i just read!
“bait pricing - get the consumer into a store through false or misleading price advertising and then uses a high-pressure selling to persuade the consumer to buy more expensive merchandise..like this.. ‘REPOSSESSED, Singer slant needle sewing machine.. take over 8 payments of $5.10 per month.. ABC Sewing Center’ This is bait. when a customer goes into see the machine, a sales person says that it has just been sold..then the sales person says BUT! I’ve got a great deal on this new fine model!”
it’s funny because it’s such a vicious cycle, advertisers do this so they can make money.. and people buy it because it sounds appealing.. advertisers need to buy things too because they’re also normal people.. and it just goes around and around.
whether or not i decide to stay with this minor, it’s fun to think about how to get people on your side opposed to the competition. i’ve always been up for that! ;]
sneak peak of my print ads to come!
stay tuned! to find out why brock lee is so sad..
